Eco Earplugs Explained

Eco Earplugs are custom made for you and fitted 'on the spot' by our audiologists and are ready to take home within 20 minutes. They are suitable for both adults and children and can be used as hearing protectors against noise, or as swimming ear plugs to keep your ears dry. Eco Earplugs are great for children who have had grommet surgery.

Swimming Earplugs

Eco Earplugs custom make affordable and unique ear plugs which can be used by adults and children when swimming, or to keep their ears dry after having grommet surgery. Our specialised material enables the earplugs to be made and ready to wear within 20 minutes.

Other custom fit earplugs require you to have impressions (moulds of your ear canals) made, which are then sent away to a manufacturer who will then create the earplug. This process takes at least two weeks and the average retail cost is ~$250 per pair.

Custom earplugs should only be fit by a trained specialist (audiologist) with experience, and who can identify when medical investigation may be required.

If cerumen (ear wax) is in the canal and an impression is taken, it can lead to the ear wax being pushed further down the ear canal and cause you symptoms such as; pain, blocked ears and reduced hearing, along with the risk of perforating your tympanic membrane (ear drum). Please contact our friends at Clear Ears Perth to have your ear wax removed prior to the custom earplug fitting, if you think this is required.

Our earplugs are made from specialised material that is set, cured and ready within 20 minutes. If you or your child are in need of earplugs to keep your ears dry, on advice from a GP or ENT specialist, it can be frustrating to have to wait two weeks.

We’ve made the earplugs an affordable price at $95 per pair, which includes; otoscopic examination, a pair of custom fit earplugs and instructions on using the earplugs along with how to care for them.

These earplugs are suitable for children or adults who have undergone grommet surgery and need to keep their ears dry, or for people who suffer from otitis externa (outer ear infection). The custom fit keeps the earplugs securely in place and gives parents peace of mind that they are keeping their little one’s ears dry, and doesn't stop them from being in the water. The material is not sticky like blutac or putty and won’t get stuck in a child’s hair.

If the earplugs happen to fall out, they will float, and they come in bright colours to stand out in the water. Let your child customise which colours they would like to encourage their use.

Custom Hearing Protection

The same material we use for our custom swimming earplugs can be used for hearing protection against exposure to excessive noise. These earplugs also come with string attached that can be clipped to your clothing, along with a carry case to make sure you don't lose them.

The Benefits of Custom Made Ear Plugs

Compared to the foam ear plugs, there are many benefits of the custom ear plugs that you may not have thought of.

Quick and Easy Fitting

Having been custom made for your ears by our audiologist, this makes the correct fitting of the earplug much easier, compared to the foam earplugs that need to be rolled in between your (often dirty) fingers, placed deeply into your ear canal and a finger placed over the plug while the foam expands to get a secure fit. If the foam ear plug is not correctly fit (which can be difficult and time consuming) then you or your workers' hearing are not optimally protected from noise exposure.

Optimal Hearing Protection

A secure and proper fit gives you and your staff the best chance of hearing protection from damage by excessive noise exposure. Give yourself peace of mind that you are looking after the health and safety of yourself and employees. We've met many workers that have regretted not wearing hearing protection early in their career as they are now having issues hearing in later life.

Do your future self and family a favour and act now by having some custom made hearing protectors fitted, that comply with the Australian Hearing Standards AS/NZS1270-2002 as true Class 5 protectors with a SLC 80 rating of 28.

Reduce Environmental Impact

Foam ear plugs are Single-Use and should be discarded after each use for proper hygiene. If you do try to reinsert them, they are often already dirty or are rolled up in dirty fingers, which risk your ears becoming infected.

The foam used is not biodegradable and can't be recycled and can infiltrate waterways leading to an environmental impact, unlike plastic straws. Although Eco Earplugs are made from medical silicone, they have an average lifespan of between 2-5 years and can be easily cleaned and reused.

On average, a worker will use 3 pairs of foam earplugs in one work day, which mostly come individually wrapped in plastic. That amounts to 15 pairs per week, which is approximately 780 pairs that will end up in landfill per year, by just one worker. You do the math.

Cost Effective

You've probably thought of investing in a pair of custom made ear plugs but found that they can cost around $250 per pair. Eco Earplugs set the price at $95 per pair to allow workers to access premium hearing protection that will last 2-5 years. We are a small business and believe in the importance of hearing protection, having conducted many hearing tests on devastated workers for WorkCover, who have permanent hearing loss from occupational noise exposure.

We feel that we need to provide this service to better protect people's hearing in the future and also help to protect our environment. Book an appointment online for a pair of Custom Made Hearing Protectors that cost $95 per pair and will be ready for you to wear in 20 minutes.
